Built as a lightweight and approachable offroad machine, the Yamaha DT175 was first brought to market in 1974. At the heart of this trail bike is a 171cc, air-cooled, two-stroke engine, good for 16 horsepower and roughyl 14 ft-lb of torque. The reed valve induction system ensures efficient fuel-air mixture intake, while the Autolube oil injection system eliminates the need for pre-mixing fuel and oil, simplifying maintenance.
The high-tensile steel frame allowed the DT to chew through rough and rugged terrain, while suspension with over 6″ of travel and the proprietary Yamaha monoshock design helped the compact enduro navigate any environment. The DT had features not often seen in off-road biased motorcycles, such as a comfortable and wide seat, a 2.5 gallon tank, and a headlight, which most dirt-faring vehicles did not have. Whether navigating challenging trails or commuting through rougher terrain, the DT175 has remained a staple around the work, making parts availability quite plentiful.
This example is VIN: 3J1061917, engine #: 3J1061917. The seller acquired the bike approximately three years ago. He notes that the seller “stored the bike in his basement” and that he “had another street bike from the early 80s that had low miles.”
During his ownership, the seller estimates that he has covered 40 miles. The odometer shows 214 miles. Per the seller, “I have no documentation to prove mileage is accurate. The bike still bears its 1985 inspection sticker and its factory switchgear along with some rubbing from the seat on the tank. Additionally, it appears that the engine has never been gone through.”
Maintenance:
The seller reports that he has “fixed the battery and connectors.” He adds that he “replaced the leaking petcock and verified the carburetor was clean and adjusted it correctly. I just rode at night and the tachometer back light is out, but speedometer light works.”
Please note: The seller has replaced the petcock pictured in many of the images with a different unit, as it was previously leaking.

It is riding on Bridgestone tires that have aged out.
