Less than a year after the initial release of the GSX-R, Suzuki unveiled an even more hardcore version of the watershed model with the GSX-R750 Limited Edition. In order to qualify for AMA Superbike competition, Suzuki produced a total of 199 LE-spec Gixxers for the US market in 1986. At approximately two grand more than the base model, the LE carried an MSRP of $6,499, making it the most expensive Japanese sportbike offering upon its release.

Separating the LE from the standard 750 was a revised suspension setup using GSX-R1100-spec 41mm forks equipped with Suzuki’s NEAS (New Electronically-Activated Suspension, basically a brake-activated solenoid that stiffened up the damping to prevent front-end dive under braking), and an aluminum-bodied remote reservoir monoshock with an aluminum full floater linkage. Stopping power was bolstered via full-floating 310mm rotors and dual-opposed piston calipers. The swingarm on the LE was also stretched by an inch (25mm) for improved stability and a steering damper was added as a standard item.

Quite possibly the biggest highlight on the new model was its super trick dry clutch, which was married to a close-ratio six-speed gearbox. Replacing the base model’s wet-plate setup, the new dry clutch came paired with an adjustable clutch lever.

The Limited Edition models were also distinguished from the standard version via its special race-inspired livery. Instead of the base model’s white and blue or black and red colors, the LE featured a red, white, and blue scheme complete with “LIMITED EDITION” graphics on the tail. The wheels were also adorned in a matching blue, the chain was gold-plated, and the engine received a special “gun-coat” finish.

This example is VIN: JS1GR75A7G2106842. The seller purchased the bike 16 years ago from a collector.

During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 1,940 kms (1,205 miles). The odometer shows 31,214 kilometers (19,395 miles).

Maintenance:
The seller states, “It is mechanically unmodified with the original exhaust pipe, VM29 flatslide carburetors, OEM wheels, brakes and suspension. I maintain my own bikes but had the carbs cleaned at Cycle Concepts in North Vancouver and the paint was done at Candy Autobody Inc. in 2022. Recent maintenance at 29,274kms/18,190mls includes: New chain/sprockets, brakes, clutch [genuine Suzuki friction plates, springs, keepers and bolts], wheel bearings, headstock bearings, brake callipers reconditioned. The new clutch has approximately 1,940kms/1,205mls of use. Windscreen replaced with an aftermarket clear windshield from suzukiperformancespares.co.uk. It’s subjective but if I were to keep it, I’d install new brake discs because it chatters under hard braking. The rear tire has a slow leak. You can fill it and ride all day and it’s fine but if left parked, it goes flat in a few days. I’m not sure where the leak is.”

Modifications:
– The OEM Exhaust has been repainted and the heat shield has been replaced with a reproduction. The original heat shield is included with the sale of the bike.

Not shown: K&N Filter.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Pirelli Sport Demon tires with date codes of 2905 and 3605.

The sale includes two keys along with the spares listed below. Please note: The photo shows the above installed bodywork after it had come back from paint. Per the seller, “The plastics that are on the bike are what it came with when I bought it. I’m pretty certain that the upper on the bike is from a 1986 GSXR750 standard (not Limited) it was in primer when I got it. The right side belly is also from a 1986 GSX-R750 standard (it doesn’t have the 3 DZUS fasteners on it). The left and right mid panels, tail and left belly panel are original Limited Edition parts; they do have the DZUS fasteners. Oh, and the gas tank on the bike is also original. The spare gas tank, mids and belly are all from a 1986 non Limited Edition GSX-R750 that I acquired over the time that I’ve owned the bike. All Suzuki parts and all 1986. They’re in exceptional condition and I had them painted and decal’ed at the same time I had the originals done. The spare exhaust pipe is also from a 1986 GSX-R750 standard.”

– Spare gas tank, conditioned with KBS and painted/decalled to match. Unused since it was cleaned and conditioned.
– Spare 1986 GSX-R750 exhaust. Removed from bike in 1986 and stored. Comes with reproduction Limited Edition shield.
– Spare intake manifolds.

– Spare left/right mid fairings

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
– Needles on gauges have faded over time, the indicator lamp panel has slight wear and the foam dash has slight shrinkage.

– Light scratching to the anodized frame on the left side below the middle of the gas tank.

– There is no rear brake lamp switch. It appears to have never had one installed.

– OEM vinyl on seat has a crack. Left side in the back rest part of the cushion about 3/4″ long.

– There is a small area of discolouration to the anodizing of the frame to the right side of the battery behind the tail section fairing. No known history of the cause; it isn’t visible unless the tail bodywork is removed.

Other blemishes the seller has noted:
– Missing the 3 DZUS quick connectors for belly pan on right side (replaced with Suzuki GSXR button head screws).
– It was noted when the brakes were reconditioned that one of the brake calliper pistons has some scoring above the bore.
– Clutch outer cover is missing a mounting tab. It’s hidden from view by the lower fairing and is held firmly by a washer.
– Upper Fairing had a repair before paint where it joins the mid-fairing left side. It’s not visible.
– Bump-out on the belly pan that goes around the lower engine case has been repaired prior to my ownership. It’s not visible.
