Replacing the legendary 916, the 996 was Ducati’s flagship superbike from 1999-2002. The gorgeous Tamburini-designed aesthetics remained, but upgrades like larger pistons and valves, a stronger crankshaft, lighter wheels, and better brakes all combined for an improved riding experience.

Per Motorcycle News: “Everything about owning this design icon feeds my love for it. I never tire of seeing it in the garage, of the lazy churn as those big pistons pulse into life and that thunderous burst of ignition on start-up. I love how dense, taut and compact it feels, how at home it is mid-corner, or how its rhythms and sonorous tones get inside your brain. Riding it feels excitingly illicit, like having an affair, without actually being unfaithful. Every ride feels like falling in love again.”

By 2001, the 996 had been granted lighter 5-spoke Marchesini wheels and an Ohlins shock.

This example is VIN: ZDM1SB5T31B010674. The seller purchased the bike from a private party through an Iconic auction April 2022. He is selling to downsize his collection.

During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 1,700 miles. The odometer shows 6,704 miles.

Maintenance:
The seller states, “Since purchase, Iconic performed a service at 5k miles consisting of tires, belts, fluids, and chain service. At 5,200 miles I performed Desmo valve service and replaced flaking rockers, oil service, fuel filter, 2x head rebuild, valve job, all exhaust guides replaced, head gaskets, all freeze engine plugs replaced. This work was initiated when a slight coolant leak was discovered coming from one of the freeze plugs. Once the heads were removed, the rest of the work was done as a preventative measure. The motorcycle is now in excellent running order with zero leaks and problematic rockers already addressed!”
Modifications:
Termignoni 50mm exhaust. Seat cowl.

Aftermarket rearsets, STM frame plugs. Ducati Performance titanium front sprocket cover.

Carbon fiber lower radiator cover.

Carbon fiber chain guard, carbon fiber rear fender.

Rear turn signals have been relocated to under the seat vents.

It is riding on Pirelli Diablo Rosso tires with date codes of 2921 and 2921.
