Debuting in 2001, the Monster S4 was lightning in the bottle for an outdated Monster lineup. Previously, Ducati enthusiasts had not seen a significant update (or even a facelift) since the mid 90s. The powerplant was a 916 V-twin engine, providing enough low-end grunt for the daily rider, while revving high enough to spirit one to adrenaline-inducing speeds.
The S4 offered improved suspension over previous models, as well as increased ground clearance, allowing for a sportier approach to the naked bike. The new Monster boasted a respectable power output, making 97hp and 64lb-ft of torque. These numbers, combined with more premium features that came stock — such as Brembo brakes, Showa suspension, and carbon fiber bits spread throughout the chassis — gave the motorcycle an air of quality that was refreshing in the outdated Monster lineup.
