With the competition become fiercer by the year in the middleweight division, Kawasaki decided to take a step away from the dedicated sportbikes for a motorcycle a bit more approachable. Introduced in 1986, the GPX 750R was Kawasaki’s approach to what most modern-day riders would call a sport-tourer – offering a more relaxed yet sporty package. The GPX saw all the changes one could expect in a motorcycle like this; wider and higher-swept bars, lower footpegs, and a wider and softer seat made the Kawi great for chewing through miles either on the open road or on a curvy back road.
Beyond the ergonomic changes, Kawasaki aimed to reinvent their now renown engine. The 750R ditched the conventional cam chain at the crank layout in favor of a more centrally-located cam chain that was squarely in between the second and third cylinder. This, combined with more subtle quality of life changes for maintenance, saw the GPX putting out a hearty 106 horserpower at 10,500 rpm, gaining the top seat in its class for the time.
Manufactured in August of 1987, this example is VIN: JKAZXDF14JB505100. The seller acquired the bike through an Iconic Motorbikes auction.
The odometer shows 5,438 miles.
