Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 2012 Harley-Davidson XR1200X. Please note: VINData incorrectly lists the mileage as 15,900, the seller states this is a mistake he made when transferring the bike into his name. Additional photos are available here for your perusal.
Back in 2008, Harley-Davidson released the XR1200, a bike that eschewed the brand’s usual flash and filigree for honest, corner-carving performance. At the time, Cycle World called it “without a doubt the best-handling production Harley to date.” With beefy inverted forks, dual front discs, a large under-tank airbox, and precision oil-cooled heads, it had all the makings of a real rider — not some parking lot prop.
And yet, motorcyclists here in the United States had to watch while those in Europe got to enjoy the fruits of Milwaukee’s labors. There simply didn’t seem to be enough market demand to justify bringing a standard bike to American showrooms.
Eventually, Harley did quell the vitriol by releasing the XR stateside for a year. However, lagging sales prompted its discontinuation in favor of an updated model dubbed the XR1200X. As with the XR1200, the ‘X’ featured the same highly-tuned 1200cc V-Twin, a block good for some 91hp and 73lb-ft of torque. To keep the 573-pound hog planted, Harley upgraded the suspension with a set of fully-adjustable 43mm Showa forks up front and some Showa hydraulic shocks at the rear. What’s more, the XR1200X gained a pair of full-floating front rotors.
And the X model had the looks to match its sporty performance, too. Unlike the XR1200, it traded Harley’s bright orange paint scheme for the choice of two far subtler options — White Denim and Black Denim — each with a blacked-out engine and trim.
Rider Magazine sums up their ride of the X quite well: “Three things I’ve never experienced on a Harley-Davidson happened at this press launch: riding on a racetrack, getting my knee down and seeing nearly 120 mph on the speedometer. But then again, the 2011 Harley-Davidson Sportster XR1200X isn’t your everyday Motor Company machine.”
This example is VIN: 1HD1LD63XCC407569. The seller purchased the bike from a local private party a year ago. He is selling because, “I live on a dirt road; and this bike is just too nice to beat up. Have five other bikes and just don’t ride it.”
During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 300 miles. The odometer shows 14,576 miles.
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “Have not needed to do any maintenance or repairs during my ownership.”
It is riding on Continental Road Attack 3 tires with date codes of 3119 and 4320.
