Known for their strange and eccentric motorcycles, Buell Motorcycle Company was originally founded all the way back in 1983, by the man Erik Buell himself. Starting his career as a Harley-Davidson engineer, Buell soon realized the potential many of his ideas had, and split from the American-based motorcycle company to found his own – Buell Motorcycles. Unfortunately, due to financial struggles Buell Motorcycle Company had to close their doors by 2009. Not one to be deterred, Erik Buell created EBR (Erik Buell Racing) shortly after and got back to the drawing board. By 2014, Erik had put his name back on the map, with the help of his flagship model – the EBR 1190RX.

The 1190RX was powered by a potent V-twin engine, delivering 185 horsepower and an astonishing 101 lb-ft of torque to the road. The motorcycle featured all of Erik’s previous eccentricities – and many new ones at that – with the signature fuel carried in the frame to help center the point of gravity, as well as his iconic perimeter brake to help cut down on overall rotating mass. Beyond the standardized features seen in many of Buell’s motorcycles, the 1190RX featured an in-house ECU, which refined the fueling and throttle response greatly on the torquey V-twin, and a sophisticated TCU system that helped keep all 185 ponies to the tarmac.

The 1190RX – and EBR as a company – was a testament to Erik Buell’s tenacity in the face of adversity, proving once again that innovation and creativity can come together to make something truly unique and capable. The EBR was so capable, in fact, that Cycle World compared it directly with the 1199 Panigale and in the process called it “the American-made superbike we’ve been waiting for.”

Manufactured January 2014, this example is VIN: 546AAAG27EE300002. The seller purchased the bike from a collector six years ago and says of the bike, “At the AIMExpo (October, 2013), EBR unveiled the ’14 1190RX. At the show were the 6 pre-production bikes (4 at the EBR booth, 1 that started at the dealer unveil and then moved to the AMSOIL booth, and 1 outside with the EBR trailer).

These were VINs #002-006 and 010. VIN #001 was not built early, as it was to be the first one off the production line and going straight to Barber. It was too valuable for them to build early and risk anything happening to it (Per EB).

#002 – This was the red RX suspended in the air at the unveiling. It stayed at EBR until the receivership, and was bought at auction. It had been used to model the design for the 1190SX, so the front end had been disassembled and reassembled to SX trim. After the conversion was complete and approved, at some point some of those SX parts were removed (presumably to be installed on SX bikes), so it was bought partially complete, and the owner returned it to RX trim in the original bodywork used to model the RX (in white). If you look closely, you can see the SX handlebar still mounted when the owner purchased it. I had it in the show at the races in Elkhart Lake this year and also in the Hard Left show in town that same day where it won first place for “Most Iconic Sportbike”.”

During his ownership the seller has covered one mile. The odometer shows 9 miles.

Maintenance:
The seller states, “Fluid change, new battery, general cleaning.”

Modifications:

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Pirelli Diablo Rosso tires with date codes of 2313 and 1614.
