Donning the now famous moniker “Shovelhead” due to the iconic (and instantly recognizable) design of its valve covers, the FXSB first appeared in 1983 as a replacement for the FXB Sturgis model. The “B” stood for belt as the bike was converted from chain drive to belt drive.
The power plant was still a V-Twin that pumped out 57 horsepower at 5,200 RPM which had to handle a whopping 637 pounds of motorcycle. With a 4-speed gearbox, this bike was capable of 96 miles per hour, and hitting 60 mph in 6.2 seconds.
This example is VIN: 1HD1BFK18DY020185; Engine: BFKD020185. The seller purchased the bike Summer 1991 from a private party out of Massachusetts and states, “I’ve always liked the look and sound of the shovelhead. This is a fairly rare bike being one of 3,277 made.”
During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 20,000 miles. The odometer shows 35,641 miles.
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “At 22,660 miles the top end was rebuilt using .010 over Wiseco 9.5 pistons, black diamond valves. In 2010 Andrews J Cam and new lifters. Recently, new front primary pulley and belt, stator and regulator. Stock rejetted carb, 2 year battery. Transmission has been rebuilt. I have paperwork. There is a small oil leak on front cylinder.”
Modifications:
“The original color was 2 tone maroon.”
It is riding on Dunlop tires which are aged out.
The sale includes one key, service manual, and maintenance records.
