Due to licensing laws, Japan saw much more competition in the 400cc sportbike market compared to the US and Europe. Kawasaki’s entry was the popular ZXR400, and compared to the competition it was more of a race replica.
The 398cc four revs up to 14,500 rpm and produces 62 horsepower in the process – somehow enough to get this bike up to 140 miles per hour. It was said to be an excellent performer that just felt a little gutless under 8,000 rpm. For more on the ZXR400, check out this review on Visordown.
