After the Monster S4R debuted in 2004, Ducati immediately added to the lineup just a year later with the S2R. The bike borrowed many cues from its older brother — like the striking trellis frame, single-sided swingarm, and double-stacked, right-side-only exhaust — but changed things up when it came to the engine. Whereas the S4R utilized a temperamental 4V water-cooled V-twin, the S2R instead featured a classical 800cc air-cooled two-valve.

Come 2006, Ducati expanded the Monster family once again with the S2R 1000. As you’d expect, the extra displacement made a marked difference in the ride. Visordown put it best when they said that, “Throughout the whole rev range the motor remains smooth, while still allowing enough of the Ducati V-twin vibes through to the bars and footpegs to ensure it doesn’t feel sanitised or soulless. Like most V-twins the mid-range is excellent, with the S2R happily pulling low in the range too, but the Monster is also helped by its low gearing. It has three teeth more on the rear sprocket than the faired SS1000DS, which shares the same motor. This gives better acceleration, which is a sensible change on a naked bike that simply doesn’t need an excess of top speed.”

Rounding out the package was a typically top-spec suite of components, including an inverted 43mm Showa fork, a Sachs rear shock with adjustable preload and rebound damping, and dual 300mm floating discs gripped by Brembo four-piston calipers.

This example is VIN: ZDM1RABP37B106276. The seller purchased the bike from a family member a little over two years ago and states, ” It was my first Ducati and I’ve really enjoyed it. Now i have a 900SS track bike that I spend more time on and I don’t ride much on the street anymore.”

During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 2,000 miles. The odometer shows 16,905 miles.

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “I have a receipt for desmo service at 7,500 and I performed full desmo service at 15,000 when I bought it: new belts, set valve clearances, all fluids, front brake pads, new chain and sprockets, all new clutch, spark plugs. I rebuilt and installed a fully adjustable shock from a Monster S4 and rebuilt the forks, I am an engineer and suspension tuner for a major suspension company. The date of the last cam drive belt replacement was 8/22.”

Modifications:
Leo Vince slip on exhaust.

G2 throttle. ASV levers. Bar ends.

Integrated tail light, LED front turn signals.

Aftermarket rearsets.

Safety wire.

Not shown: Booster plug.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport tires with date codes of 4223 and 4923.

The sale includes three keys, owner’s manual, service manual, original take off parts, and maintenance records.
