Not many motorcycles bear a name as iconic as the Goldwing. First released in 1974 with the original GL1000 model, the Goldwing brought with it an innovative combination of power, comfort, and leading edge technology (for the time).
Thanks to roughly 80 horses on tap and some 61lb-ft of torque, the Wing boasted more than enough grunt for extended, two-up trips. Add to that features such as a shaft drive, an electric start, some auxiliary power for accessories, and more luggage than a mid-sized SUV, and the result is a bike purpose-built for chewing through miles.
Needless to say, the original GL1000 proved an instant hit in the sport-touring market. By the turn of the decade, Honda was in full swing with the development of the Goldwing line.
In celebration of America’s bicentennial, Honda released 2,000 Limited Edition models in 1976. Each bike came in a special Wine Brown paint scheme with gold rims and spokes, distinctive LTD badging, lots of shiny chrome bits and pieces, and leather tool kit with chrome tools.
Manufactured April 1976, this example is VIN: GL12037173. The seller purchased the bike 30 years ago and states, “Purchased from the original owner 30 years ago and added to my large collection. It has been on display in the collection for 30 years. The current owner owned a Honda dealership started by his father.”
During his ownership the seller covered approximately 500 miles. The odometer shows 3,911 miles.
