The 916 truly needs no introduction, but we’ll defer to VisorDown for our favorite summation:
“Every once in a while a true classic comes along: James Joyce’s Ulysses, The Beatles’ Revolver, Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. Greats one-and-all, to be seen, owned or understood by the discerning and devoted. To the list of timeless classics, we can add Massimo Tamburini’s Ducati 916.”
“Never had a motorcycle provoked such feelings of pure lust or been so coveted. Here was sex made metal, a Sophia Loren in cro-mo steel and alloy. Slim and curvy, the 916 took the breath away from any angle and redefined how a motorcycle could, and should, look.”
“And it wasn’t just skin deep. The four valves per cylinder desmodromic V-twin measured 916cc and produced 114 crankshaft horsepower, with torque from tickover.”
This example is VIN: ZDM1SB8S5VB010541; Engine: SB8V011021. The seller purchased the bike from a friend in 2006 and states, “I have seven motorcycles in my garage. At this time in my motorcycle “career” I have limited bandwidth to maintain them all and have decided the 916 is no longer manageable. Plus, I don’t ride it enough. For many years I considered myself a Ducatisti. I have owned seven Ducatis in my lifetime; a vintage MK350, two CR900s, a 900 Monster, a 748, a Streetfighter, and the 916. I had four in my garage at one point. When a friend decided to sell his 916 I could not resist the allure of including it in my stable. But I rarely rode it. In 2010 I moved to Europe from the US and I was unwilling to go through the export/import rigor that was required so I placed the bike in storage where it remained until my return to the United States in 2023. It lived at Vicious Cycle in Portland while I was in Europe (see photo). I had never intended to sell the bike but due to circumstances mentioned above it is time.”
During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 500 miles. The odometer shows 16,591 miles.
