Bill Patterson is an artist living in Texas who is best known for his portrayals of motion — he’s painted everything from Formula 1, NASCAR, and Indycar to skiing, sailing, and cycling. Whatever the sport, he can be found in the winner’s circle close to the action.
This particular piece of art was commissioned and then painted on-site by Bill Patterson at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the MotoGP weekend in August 2009. Riding a Yamaha YZR-M1, Valentino Rossi crashed on lap 12 and was one of only four races “The Doctor” didn’t make the podium.
Per the seller, “What I love about this particular painting is the Indy Motor Speedway pergola and American flag. I feel they set the time and place to an already amazing portrayal of Rossi. Bill Patterson is one of the best painters of speed and this might be the very best painting of Vale ever.”
The sale also includes the original hand drawn sketch the painting is based upon and a VR46 cap signed by Valentino Rossi.
The reserve price includes shipping to the continental United States. Currently located in Butler, Missouri this painting is offered on a Bill of Sale only. Have any questions about this listing? Let us know in the “Comments” tab!
