Sold for only one year, the EV 80 was released to celebrated Moto Guzzi’s 80th anniversary. The Italian based firm collaborated with furniture maker Poltrona Frau to give the special edition California its unique looks consisting of red leather seat, grip covers, ignition key, and saddle bags. The latter being designed to be used as luggage when off the bike thanks to built in shoulder straps and combination locks.
The powermill was the same 1064cc 90cc V-Twin from the California line which produced 74 horsepower. In 2001, the bike was updated, including a rare decrease in power (just 1 horsepower) due to emissions regulations. Top speed was 115 miles per hour and it got a decent 44 miles per gallon. The bike was produced in a limited edition of 300 numbered units, with approximately 30 said to be imported to the US.
Manufactured December 2001, this example is VIN: ZGUKDBKD82M180278. The seller purchased the bike a few months ago from the original owner and states, “I heard about the bike thru a mutual friend of the owners. After two trips to Connecticut to look at the bike and a couple of hours of conversation that included cookies and coffee at the owners kitchen table we came to terms on price and a deal was struck. The bike had spent the past 10 years in the owners heated garage unridden. After a good cleaning, fluids change and fuel system repair my wife and I have put on over 500 miles riding local back roads. Cruisers are not my favorite riding style, but this bike handles and stops like a sport bike and is super comfortable. This is not a run of the mill California, it is a very specially appointed 1/30 imported anniversary edition. This Guzzi is truly a fun and unique bike.”
It is number 166 of the production run.
The odometer shows 12,818 miles.
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “Bike was meticulously cleaned, tank and fuel system cleaned, fuel pump and filter replaced and all fluids changed.
I did the work myself in my shop and have receipts for parts.”
Modifications:
Not shown: “I did modify the fuel tap to a manual valve in place of the frequently faulty electrically actuated stock valve.”
It is riding on Michelin Macadam tires with date codes of 1104 and 0105.
The sale includes two keys, owner’s booklet, and letter of authenticity.
