BMW released their F series in 2019 with the F900R (naked) and F900XR (sport touring) to compete in the popular 900cc segment. Motorrand’s goal? Go after “volume brands” by offering superior technology over the competition, specifically Yamaha’s MT-09, Tracer 900, and Kawasaki’s Z900, amongst others.
These tech components include LED lights all around, TFT screen with mobile connectivity, stability control, 12V socket, two ride modes (Rain and Road), throttle response, and more. There’s also optional cornering lights in the headlight, different seat heights, additional riding modes, and more available in the tech package which are Select, Premium, and Premium Tech.
The shared engine is a 895cc parallel twin evolved from the motor in the F850GS. The powerplant has dual counter balances and a 2mm larger bore increasing displacement from 853cc to 895cc. Weighing a claimed 465 pounds wet, the motor, paired with a 6-speed gearbox, produces 99 horsepower and 68 lb-ft of torque.
