Description

Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 1989 BMW R100GS.

Coming to market in 1988, the R100GS was BMW’s newest iteration of adventure-touring motorcycling, building off of the success of both the R80G/S and R80GS models. With the goal of making a motorcycle that was equally capable on-and-off-road, the R100GS featured a 980cc air-cooled, twin cylinder boxer, which was good for roughly 60 horsepower and 55 ft./lb. of torque.

With a low center of gravity mainly due to the placement of the engine, the GS was surprisingly capable on difficult terrain. To further enhance the off-road potential of R100GS, BMW released the motorcycle with a dirt-oriented wheel setup of a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel. Rounding out the long-distance package was a new larger tank, meant to extend the adventure even further.

This example is VIN: WB1047807K6153361. The seller purchased the bike three years ago from AdvMotoTech in Santa Clarita, California, and states, “I bought it stock, and wanted to build it out with modern parts. Took a few years to build, ended up picking up other bikes that changed my direction in riding style.”

True mileage unknown. According to the seller, “Believed to be 50,000.” During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 500 miles.

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “New starter motor, new internal drive shaft. 300 miles on a new updated rear driveshaft. I think it idles high after riding freeway. Tires aren’t broken in, so I get wobbles. Common trait from running Motoz knobby tires.”

Modifications:
The seller has provided the following list of modifications:
– TracTive rear shock adjustable
– Updated heavy duty rear wheel built by Buchanan
– All black new Excel rims 21” front
– WP inverted forks
– Dual Brembos
– Custom built triple tree
– PIAA auxiliary light
– LED turn signals
– Custom rear fender
– Single seat
– Cycra Racer Pack hand guards
– Acerbis fork guards

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Motoz Tractionator RallZ tires with date codes of 2123.

The sale includes one key.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“Tank is thirty yrs old so its not perfect.”
