Evolving out of the Virago, Yamaha’s V-Star has been a staple in the cruiser market since it’s inception in 1997. The 535cc engine was bored out to 649cc and although many doubted a mid-size cruiser in the American market, it’s competitive price, smooth transmission, and cool 1940s retro looks made the bike an attractive option for both novice and veteran riders.
A year later, the V-Star got an upgrade with the release of the 1100. Like its little brother, it was available in two options: Custom – with a lower seat height, and Classic – with a higher seat. The 1,063cc V-Twin was paired with dual Mikuni 37mm carburetors, five-speed gearbox, shaft final drive, and although reviewers noted high vibration levels on the highway and slightly harsh rear suspension, the bike was well received and Motorcycle Cruiser magazine said of the bike, “In our opinion, it’s the best package being offered in the 1100 class this year.”
Fast forward to 2007 and The Tuning Fork Company filled the gap between their 1100 and Road Star line with the V-Star 1300. It got fuel injection (the cooling fins are a styling touch), two-into-one exhaust, four valves per cylinder, and the 1,304cc powerplant produced a claimed 76.8 hp and 81.8 lb-ft of torque. Yamaha described the bike as “Big Cruiser sensual character” – powerful, clean lines, smooth. The bike was available in a standard or Tourer model (passenger windshield, passenger backrest, and hard bags) and lasted for ten years until 2017.

The seller purchased the bike six years ago from Next Motorcycle in Inglewood, California, and states, “Moved to California in 2017, missed my old cruisers back home so I picked this one up in 2019 – then hardly got a chance to use it, and now I don’t have room to keep it garaged anymore.”
During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 160 miles. The odometer shows 6,766 miles.
Maintenance:
The seller notes, “Full service at MotoClub Santa Monica in Nov 2023.” In November of 2024 we cleaned the fuel injectors, replaced the spark plugs, and installed new tires. More recently, in preparation for the listing, the seller had us flush, fill, and bleed the hydraulic fluid.
