The 916 truly needs no introduction, but we’ll defer to VisorDown for our favorite summation: “Every once in a while a true classic comes along: James Joyce’s Ulysses, The Beatles’ Revolver, Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. Greats one-and-all, to be seen, owned or understood by the discerning and devoted. To the list of timeless classics, we can add Massimo Tamburini’s Ducati 916.

Never had a motorcycle provoked such feelings of pure lust or been so coveted. Here was sex made metal, a Sophia Loren in cro-mo steel and alloy. Slim and curvy, the 916 took the breath away from any angle and redefined how a motorcycle could, and should, look.”

Alongside the standard Strada model, Ducati also produced a series of homologation specials starting with the SP. The SP2 (like the one offered here) debuted in 1995. Just 401 examples were built, and each one was fitted with a slew of carbon fiber parts, a white Monoposto tail, an Öhlins rear shock, and a set of full floating cast-iron brake rotors.

By far the biggest change to the SP, though, was the motor. For despite its similarities to the Strada, it came with rough-cast cases, smooth heads, and plenty of internal upgrades: reinforced main bearings, a unique clutch pack, a 14-tooth front sprocket, a high flow oil pump, Pankl titanium con rods, lighter crankshaft counterweights, larger valves, and twin-injector throttle bodies.

This example is VIN: ZDM916S005148.

The odometer shows 2,302 kilometers (1,430 miles).
