Considered to be Honda’s first homologation special, the CB1100R is a legend among Honda fans – especially those based in the US, where this bike was never officially sold. The CBR was offered in 1981 (RB), 1982 (RC), and 1983 (RD). As an RC, this bike is one of 1,500 examples.
Based on the CB900F, the CB1100R was developed to allow Honda to compete in endurance racing – they won the ’81 New Zealand Castrol Six Hour. It was big and it was heavy, but it was damn fast. The engine from the CB900 was bored out, bumping displacement up to 1062cc. The new engine produced 115 horsepower at 9,000 rpm. Top speed was 149 miles per hour, making it the fastest bike of its time.
Despite the 518 pound weight, the new one piece frame combined with Honda’s first use of twin-piston calipers and nitrogen-charged piggyback shocks in a production bike made this bike successful on race tracks that utilized fast sweepers over tight hairpins.
Top speed was 149 miles per hour, making it the fastest bike of its time.
This example is VIN: SC082001285. The seller purchased the bike January 2021 through an Iconic auction and states, “Bought the 1100R from Iconic and rode it to bike hangouts (Rock Store etc.) and always got people to comment on the rarity of the machine. The 1100R is actually very comfortable on long distance and handles very well. Power comes on very seriously around 5,000 rpm. Sorry to see it go but it’s time. This bike comes with original tool kit, original owners manual along with replacement front foot peg rubbers. Everything is on the bike like original including the tool kit box on the left rear of the bike. This 1100R loves to be riden on long open highways but will not disappoint on the curves.”
During his ownership, the seller has covered 1,900 miles. The odometer shows 58,320 kilometers (36,238 miles).
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “New tires in 2024. New clutch plates and oil / filter change. Carb rebuild in 2023 with new o rings and gaskets. Horns stopped working about a month ago.”
Modifications: “New reproduction exhaust in 2023. New seat cover in 2024.”
Inside of the tank:
It is riding on Bridgestone Battlax BT-46 tires with date codes of 1222 and 2122.
The sale includes one key, owner’s manual, parts manual, factory tool kit, replacement peg, windshield, original license plate, and literature.
Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection: “Small nicks on fairings. Honda decals on tank are slightly damaged due to previous owner putting handlebars under the triple clamp. I reversed that modification and returned the bike to stock.”
