While the GSX-R750 debuted in 1985 for most countries, the US first got it and the bigger brother 1100 in 1986. The 1100 was bigger and stronger with a 1052cc, four-cylinder, oil-cooled, four-stroke in-line motor housed in a lightweight aluminum frame.
This meant the new full fairing icon was capable of 128bhp at 8,500 rpm and 70 ft-lbs at 8,000 rpm. At 434 pounds dry, the 1100 was surprisingly light upon release. It also became the first road bike to have a cartridge fork setup and electronically activated suspension.
The 1988 Suzuki GSX-R1100 scored Enkei 3-spoke rims that lifted the looks of the machine and gave it a slightly wider contact patch on the rear. The front guard was widened a little, while the only engine mod was increased capacity for the massive front oil cooler.
