Ducati’s Monster first arrived on the scene in 1993 as the M900. It was famously a parts-bin special, incorporating the frame from the 888 as well as the air-cooled SOHC engine from the 900SS. Even still, the naked styling was a hit with customers. In fact, the Monster was so popular that it accounted for 42% of Ducati’s sales between 1993 and 2000.

And here’s the thing — the model was more than a mere design exercise. On the road, the Monster produced some 67hp and 60lb-ft of torque — more than enough grunt to move its 407-pound heft. Around the bike, you also got top-spec parts such as Brembo brakes, Öhlins suspension, and even a dry clutch.

As Bike Magazine put in its 1993 review: “This is no retro. A Zephyr is a styling gimmick, a bare bones bike tainted by nostalgia. Nor is the Monster a no-compromise sportster (that only comes into its own above 130mph clothed in expensive plastic). No, the Monster is a modern, raunchy street bike, pure and simple. There’s no pretense, no waste and no messing. It’s pure, concentrated essence of motorcycling fun and it’s got bags of character without any surplus baggage.”

The odometer shows 13,594 miles. The seller states he “rode it “quite a bit”, it started his love of Monsters.

Maintenance:
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us perform a safety inspection, we replaced the battery, changed the oil (15w50) and filter, flushed and replaced the hydraulic fluid in the clutch, front brakes, and rear brake. The secondary clutch cylinder was replaced. We cleaned and sync’d the carbs, replaced the drive chain, spark plugs and K&N air filter. The front forks were rebuilt with new fork seals, dust covers and fork oil (10wt). The fuel pump was rebuilt, new fuel level sensor, fuel filter and fuel hose. And finally both timing belts were replaced.
