Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 2005 Ducati Monster S4R.

The S4R marked an evolution of more power, less weight, and a new front end for the Ducati Monster range. When first introduced in 2002, the Ducati S4 set the highest performance standard for a modern naked bike. The success of this model led to the birth of the entire Ducati Monster S4 range, including the S4R and S4RS.

Upon its launch in 2004, Motorcyclist magazine called it, “The meanest Monster ever.” The motor was the 996cc Desmo unit from the 996 superbike with a few tweaks for more street-ability. But This Ducati Monster S4R has had some serious custom work done. It was stripped down to the bare frame, with every weld and tube polished before being powder-coated in chrome and finished with a Candy Apple Red top coat. The suspension was upgraded with Racetech reworked Honda CBR1000RR forks featuring anodized tubes and DLC-coated sliders, paired with an Öhlins rear shock tuned to match a custom 30mm-longer chromoly swingarm fabricated by Greggs Customs. The bike rides on PVM forged magnesium wheels.

The engine was built by Desmoto Sport in San Francisco to near-Superbike specification, with big cams, high-compression pistons, ported heads, uprated injectors, port matching, a slipper clutch, and more, tuned via Power Commander to produce an estimated 155 horsepower. Supporting upgrades include Samco coolant hoses with titanium clamps, and a Ducati Performance 2-1 header with Leo Vince carbon muffler.

This example is VIN: ZDM1RB5T05B063205. The seller has owned the bike two years and notes, “I built it originally as a project bike for Robb Report Motorcycling Magazine. Tim Allen purchased it and rode it for a number of years, before selling it at auction. Steve bought the bike at the auction and made some improvements, including bigger cams and higher compression, along with ported heads, etc.”
The seller states that “the VIN is not visible on the frame due to the polishing and powder coating.”

The odometer shows 6,107 miles.

Maintenance:
The seller notes the date of the last cam drive belt replacement as February 1, 2025. Regarding other maintenance he states, “When I purchased it, I did a full service, all fluids, filters, belts, TB sync, etc. Haven’t really ridden it much, kept on a tender and started regularly. It needs proper tires. These are old and the rear is a 190/50 and should be a 190/55.”
Modifications:
In addition to the custom build information listed above, the seller states modifications also include: “SpeedyMoto one-off billet triple clamps, billet water pump and clutch covers, Ducati Performance slipper clutch, billet fuel cap, Sato rearsets, Brembo RCS clutch master, Oberon slave cylinder, Ohlins shock, CBR1000RR front forks with DLC lowers and Ohlins internals. Zero Gravity custom Polycarbonate belt covers, custom Zero Gravity flyscreen with titanium brackets, custom one-off Greggs Customs swingarm (+30mm), forged PVM 20 spoke magnesium wheels, 996 sidestand, and a custom paint job by Airtrix.”
It is riding on Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires with date codes of 1719 and 2419.
