Royal Enfield revived the Continental GT name with the launch of a 535cc single in 2014. In addition to its classic styling and approachable size, it made for the marque’s most powerful offering at the time. Some three years later, Royal Enfield updated the model with a larger 650cc twin. Released alongside the more upright Interceptor 650 (INT650 here in the States), it boasted a more angular tank, clip-on handlebars and rearsets, and an optional solo seat to encourage a sportier riding position.
Output increased to 47hp and 38lb-ft of torque, making the bike much livelier through the twisties. As MCN found in its review, “But as I hop on board, thumb the starter, twist out a fruity thrumm from the willing twin and blart out of the car park, darting up and down through the gears with ease and dancing nimbly through the traffic, I’m already impressed. Within half-a-mile I’m completely at ease. Despite the ace bars and rearsets, the riding position isn’t at all extreme and, being relatively light, slim and all-round dinky means it’s also completely unintimidating and manageable. You really do just get on and ride.”
Royal Enfield made this video about the 120th anniversary limited edition which features a special black chrome hand pin stripped gas tank and rear cowl, with hand crafted foundry badging on the tank.
This anniversary edition also comes with a special brown stitch cafe seat with matching brown handgrips, a matching two-up seat, bar end mirrors, fly screen, skid plate and crash bars.
