We’ve praised the Yamaha R1 for years here at Iconic, and today we’re excited to share a one of a kind example for you! This R1 was originally built by Yamaha USA with several Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing (GYTR) parts specifically to raise money for a non-profit arts program in Brooklyn, New York called Bailey’s Cafe. It was adorned in Yamaha’s 50th Anniversary red/white speedblock (which Yamaha would use for their 2012 50th Anniversary Edition R1 the next year). Kenny Roberts did some parade laps with it at the 2011 US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca, and then Roberts himself and Jay Leno helped auction it off for charity, raising $87,000 in the process thanks to the winning bid of Milton Verret. Said Kenny, “I’m kinda surprised that someone would pay for a bike that I sat my butt on and worked the rear tire on pretty good. But, it was for a good cause, and Milton really came through for Bailey’s Café.”
“This auction is another great part of our activities for Yamaha’s 50th Anniversary of World GP Racing,” said Bob Starr, General Manager of Communications for Yamaha’s Motorsports Group. “To have both Jay and Kenny involved in such a worthy cause is a great way to celebrate!”

Maintenance:
The seller states that they do not have maintenance records. They add that it has no known mechanical issues.
Modifications:
Yamaha USA prepped this R1 with several modifications for the original charity auction. Some of those modifications include:
Marchesini forged aluminum wheels, Brembo calipers.
GYTR full exhaust system.
Ohlins rear shock.
GPR steering stabilizer, Vortex clip-ons.
Harris folding clutch lever.
Brembo RCS19 master cylinder.
Vortex gas cap.
Frame sliders, Harris rear sets.
In addition, the bike has since been given aftermarket front and rear turn signals.
Inside of the tank:
It is riding on Metzler Racetec RR K3 tires with date codes of 1618 and 2019.
The sale includes one OEM key, the additional key is for a chain lock that is not included with the sale of the bike.
