The launch-year 1987 CBR600F ‘Hurricane’ wasn’t just the first year of the first generation — it was a watershed moment for Honda and for motorcycling as a whole. This is the machine that inaugurated the CBR line in the U.S. and is widely credited with ushering in the modern, fully-faired 600-class sportbike era from a Japanese manufacturer. A genuine milestone, it combined race-ready performance with everyday civility: quick enough to mix it up in 600cc competition yet friendly and refined for weekday street duty.

When it debuted, it reset the class standard as the then-benchmark Kawasaki GPZ600 was roughly 28 pounds heavier and about 12 horsepower down. It was the first 600cc sportbike capable of a sub-11-second quarter mile. Today, this model/year is recognized as an icon: the classic that made ‘CBR’ synonymous with performance.

This example is VIN: JH2PC1900HM005242.

The odometer shows 7,104 miles.

The seller is the original owner. He purchased it new in July 1987 from Coleman Power Sports in Falls Church, Virginia. “I bought this motorcycle in the summer of 1987. I rode it occasionally for the next three or four years, then I drained the fuel, put a cover over it, and kept it inside my climate controlled warehouse. So it has been in storage for over 30 years. The fuel was drained before storage, I recently replaced the battery and the motorcycle started right up. I already have too many motorcycles, this model has become a collectors item and I thought I would find a good home for it.”

Maintenance:
Change the oil and filter about every 1,000 miles. And did normal maintenance like clean and lube the chain, the air filter, and the cables. It has no mechanical issues, it has only 7,000 miles on it and is in excellent condition. It starts right up quickly. And has only had high quality synthetic motor oil in it..”

Modifications:
Other than the helmet lock, the the seller states that this bike has no modifications and “is absolutely stock as it came delivered from Honda.”

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on the original Bridgestone front and a Metzler rear tire, which have aged out with date codes of 097 and 231.

The sale includes two keys, and two keys for the helmet lock. It also includes an original poster from American Honda when they released the Hurricane in 1987.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album in the “Photos” tab for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
The gas tank, the upper cowling, the seat cowling, as well as the right fairing are absolutely pristine and flawless. The left fairing on the lower part has a few small scratches on the red decal on the bodywork.”
