When it was introduced in 1999, the BMW R1100S was BMW’s most powerful twin built to date. The Germany company insisted on making it clear that it was not a pure sportbike, but it offered up a lot of BMW’s usual benefits in a much sportier package.

Riders still got to benefit from the reliability and easy maintenance of the boxer twin with shaft drive, plus the all-around convenience of optional features like hard bags, ABS, and heated grips.

In 2004, BMW updated the R1100S with servo-assisted brakes and dual-spark heads, the latter of which bumped horsepower to 98.

As MCN put it in a look back on the model, “the BMW R1100S is now starting to be regarded as something of a classic, especially in Boxer Cup form. Classy (and crucially un-ugly) styling, VFR-esque comfort and versatility plus BMW quality and residuals make for a stonking and attractive all-rounder.”

Manufactured in January of 2004, this example is VIN: WB10432A34ZB54148. The seller acquired this bike in June of 2022 from the brother of the original owner in Las Vegas. He notes that the bike is originally from Riverside, California.

During his ownership, the seller has covered roughly 6,000 miles. The odometer shows 52,834 miles.

“I’ve had quite a few bikes (CBR600F2/VFR750F/FZR1000/ZX11/916/Monster and some others) and thought this would be the perfect blend of sport bike and usability (hard bags). I have very little time to ride and now that I’m in the high desert, every ride starts with an hour on the freeway to get somewhere interesting so I usually just take the Harley. Abhi has ridden this bike and thought it rode well…I think it should go to someone who will appreciate it. ”

Maintenance:
“I’ve replaced the entire fuel system, the coils, and alternator belt. It’s had a new battery since I bought it as well. I did an oil and filter change at the beginning of the riding season (April?) and checked the valve clearances when I was doing the oil change.
Every once in a while I smell fuel but after multiple inspections, have not found anything leaking. Now wonder if it might be the gasket on the top of the tank in combination with the tank bag above the gas cap. It will need new tires (age).”
