To celebrate their 50th anniversary, Yamaha took their incredibly popular 1000cc sportbike and modified just 500 examples into near-production racers.

Specific changes made for the Yamaha R1 Limited Edition include: An homage to Kenny Roberts and the original Yamaha racing colors with the lovely yellow/black/white ‘speedblock’ paint.

Front and rear Ohlins suspension – developed by the same team that took care of the Yamaha MotoGP bike of the time…

…slipper clutch, integrated lap timer, Marchesini forged aluminum wheels designed specifically for this bike, plus Yamaha also provided a “special tool box” with each Limited Edition.

Manufactured in February of 2006, this example is VIN: JYARN15Y06A001578. The seller acquired it eighteen months ago from a private party in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

The odometer does not power up, true mileage is unknown. Last reported mileage on the VINData Report was 27,787 in 2017.

“I’ve always wanted a 50th Anniversary R1. I wasn’t particularly looking for a Limited Edition version, but came across this non-running one and figured it’d make a good display piece if nothing else. I would of liked to have gotten it running, but I just have to many other projects that are taking my time and resources so I’d like to pass it on to someone else to enjoy.”

Maintenance:
“Replaced battery, and left side aftermarket front turn signals and rear sets with OEM factory new from Yamaha. I was able to locate a good used OEM turn signal and rearset for the right side to be included with the sale of the bike.”
