Please Note: The VINData Report for this bike shows that there is an open recall for the fuel pump.

Introduced in 2003, the CBR600RR marked a dramatic shift in how Honda developed sports bikes. Project Leader Hiroyuki Ito stated, “we developed the RR in a completely different way from any model in the past. In the past Honda has always developed a road bike, then modified it for racing. But with the RR, we first built a prototype racer, then gave it to the production department.”

The CBR600RR benefitted from Honda’s learning with the RC211V MotoGP racebike with enhancements like the Unit Pro-Link rear suspension and Honda’s new dual stage fuel injection. The bike got major revisions every two years, and in 2009 Honda debuted a sportbike first of optional ABS (not equipped on this specific bike). Engine updates resulted in additional torque without having to give up top-end power.

Manufactured in January 2009, this example is VIN: JH2PC40479K200799. The seller bought it six years ago “from mechanic’s home, where it had been abandoned by an unknown customer.”

During his ownership, the seller has covered between 1,000-2,000 miles. The odometer shows 17,380 miles.

Bike is owned by motorsports journalist Michael Gougis, author of the story that became the Dreamworks motion picture “Biker Boyz,” and has been seen multiple times in Roadracing World & Motorcycle Technology magazine. It has been used for photo shoots, track days, and racing with organizations like WERA West in the V8 Mediumweight vintage class. In its category, it has been good enough for trophies and one highly improbable race win.

Maintained by the crew at M Performance Racing, a bunch of former racers who took my race program as seriously as I took it and always made sure the bike was as perfect as it could be when I unloaded at the track. Simple, dependable, runs on pump gas, and extremely well-sorted. Perfect for the track day rider and gentleman racer. I will miss it when it is gone.
