The obvious evolution of the KZ900, the Kawasaki KZ1000 was another straight line brute that got a heavier crankshaft along with the displacement bump. You could get the bike with chain or shaft drive, but either form could top 130 miles per hour.

For the 1979 model, Kawasaki claimed 93 horsepower and 65 foot-pounds of torque.

Kawasaki also offered a cruiser-inspired “LTD” version which was assembled in Nebraska for the US and Canadian markets. Highlights of the changes included mag wheels, smaller tank, chrome trim pieces, different shocks, pull back handlebars, stepped seat, center stand delete, and a different exhaust.

Manufactured in March of 1979, this example is VIN: KZT00B522088. The seller purchased it six years ago from a private party in British Columbia.
