2026-03-06 13:50:00 2026-03-06 14:00:00 America/Los_Angeles 1985 Honda VF1000R Paso Robles, California - Honda’s mid 80s halo bike. The VF1000R was blessed with gear driven cams and full race replica bodywork. https://iconicmotorbikeauctions.com/auction/1985-honda-vf1000r-9/ Iconic Motorbike Auctions concierge@iconicmotorbikes.com

When it was released, the VF1000R was a bit of a revelation: it was Honda’s flagship, designed to showcase what the Japanese firm was capable of. It was also a huge tease to US riders, because it was initially only released in Europe only – America got the VF1000F instead, which was designed to be more of a touring bike.

The R was Honda’s first road bike to benefit from gear-driven cams and came decked out in fully faired, racer replica bodywork with rearset footpegs and adjustable clip-on handlebars for a more racer-ready riding position.

Manufactured in February 1985, this example is VIN: JH2SC1619FM000139. The seller acquired it 18 months ago from a private party in Oceano, California.

During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 50 miles. The odometer shows 9,910 miles.

We purchased the bike from a gentleman from Oceano, California, and he owns several classic motorcycles. They are stored in a hanger at the airport in Oceano which is a problem due to the sea air that can settle on the bikes. I just got the bike running after a carburetor overhaul (I am a certified Honda tech from the 1980s) and thorough once-over. That being said, our property taxes are overdue which forces us to sell this beauty. The bike runs great and is very solid. Starts immediately and does not suffer from cold start problems. The tires look good, but they are older. It shows well. Has no sun fading. Comes with the factory tool carrier and kit. The inside of the fuel tank is PERFECT.”

Maintenance:
The carburetors were rebuilt. (They were not bad at all, so a good cleaning was easy. Only bowl gaskets and float needles were replaced.) The factory idle screw blocks have been removed so adjustment is accessible. The engine oil, coolant, and brake fluids were replaced. (The brake fluid was clear when exchanged.) Every part of the bike was thoroughly inspected and tested. I have performed all the work myself. I have years of experience and an excellent reputation. I worked for years in the 1980s as a motorcycle technician and went through ALL of the Honda S.T.E.P. program schools.”

Modifications:
There are no modifications. This bike is 100% factory stock.”

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Dunlop Arrowmax GT501 tires that have aged out with date codes of 0601 and 1003

The sale includes 1 ignition key and the tool kit.

The seller notes, “the bike has all original components including the factory tool box and kit. I am also including a very decent clutch cover to replace the corroded original.”

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album in the “Photos” tab for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“The bike shows well, but the following issues are apparent: There are several spots on the frame where slight (Surface) rust shows, mostly where a weld joint had thin paint. There is some corrosion evident on the clutch side cover. The fairing sustained a crack at the right mirror mount. (It appears that the mirror was banged into and it cracked the fairing at the mount.) The front fender has a small scrape near the left fork leg. The seat lower fairing has a small crack at the left forward mount. There is a minor scuff on the left exhaust cover. (It looks like it is from someone’s boot.) Overall normal condition for a bike of its age that has NEVER been stored outside.”

Currently located in Paso Robles, California, this Honda is offered on a clean California title with registration current through June 2010.
