2026-03-14 09:50:00 2026-03-14 10:00:00 America/Los_Angeles No Reserve For Kensei – 2000 Team Roberts Modenas KR3 Bodywork Panorama City, California - donated by Kenny Roberts himself, the proceeds of this sale will go to the racer we sponsor, Kensei Matsudaira! https://iconicmotorbikeauctions.com/auction/no-reserve-for-kensei-2000-team-roberts-modenas-kr3-bodywork/ Iconic Motorbike Auctions concierge@iconicmotorbikes.com

As you may know, Iconic Motorbikes has proudly been sponsoring Kensei Matsudaira for several years – you can check out this video with some details from earlier efforts! This year he will be joining Team Roberts to challenge for the title in the MotoAmerica Talent Cup on the Krämer APX-350 MA, and he will also be racing in the FIM Moto4 Latin Cup in 2026 representing the USA on board a Honda NSF250R. Team Roberts is led by Arney Wick and none other than King Kenny Roberts (who occasionally hops on the the Kramer himself), and to help with the funds for Kensei’s season this year they have donated bodywork from their Modenas KR3 that campaigned in the 2000 season of the FIM GP World Championship.

After splitting from Yamaha at the end of the 1996 season, Kenny Roberts was able to start his own team thanks to funding from the Malaysian company Modenas. At the time, both 2-strokes and 4-strokes were allowed on the grid, and three-cylinder bikes were allowed to weigh 15 kilograms less than four-cylinder bikes (115 vs 130). With that in mind, Team Roberts Modenas created a 500cc 2-stroke 3-cylinder machine called the KR3. If you want more details on the bike, we recommend Kevin Cameron’s 1998 piece in Cycle World, which you can read here.

We are able to confirm that these fairings were used on a race bike but the exact history is unknown at this time. The livery is from the 2000 season, and Team Roberts’ best guess is that the most recent rider was likely Jurgen van den Goorbergh (#17). He became an official rider for Team Roberts in 2001, as such these fairings were likely used in pre-season testing that year.

Team riders in the 2000 season were Jose David de Gea and Luca Cadalora, you can find photos of Luca on his bike that season with #11. We are unable to track down images of the #17 bike from that time.
