When Harley’s FX-based Low Rider first hit showroom floors back in 1977, it was an immediate success that outsold all of The Motor Company’s other models in its first full year of production. Over the years, Harley continued to sell variations of the Low Rider derived from both its FXR and Dyna platforms. Along with reaping the benefits of belt drive, rubber engine mounts, and sturdier frame tubes, it also received creature comforts like improved instrumentation and self-canceling turn signals, as well as eye-catching aesthetic makeovers in the form of the Sturgis and Daytona Editions. Eventually, however, Harley-Davidson stopped production of the Low Rider in 2009.
Come 2014, the model made its return via the FXDL. In keeping with the Low Rider’s roots, Harley-Davidson designed the bike to accommodate shorter riders. Thanks to a clever adjustable seat and a pivoting riser assembly, it was sized such that it could fit anyone from 5’1″ to 6’1″ in height. Of course, geometry alone wasn’t enough to warrant a complete model reintroduction; Harley also worked to find the ideal balance between comfort and performance. Accordingly, the fork and shocks were fitted with tri-rate springs, giving riders improved response over a range of road conditions whilst minimizing brake dive during aggressive stopping efforts. In combination with a set of dual 300mm front discs, four-pot calipers, and a thumping Twin Cam 103 engine — good for 75hp and 98.8lb-ft of torque — the changes made for a thrilling update to a bike tipping the scales at some 666lbs dry.
This motorcycle started as a 2014 Harley-Davidson Dyna and was transformed into a complete one-off build through an extensive build. As part of the build, all major components were upgraded, rebuilt, or replaced, including engine internals, braking system, suspension, and control components. The motorcycle has been carefully stored and maintained, and all components are in excellent condition.”
