In 1990, Moto Guzzi released the 1000S, styled to look like an update of the ’75 750 S3. It sold poorly but the classic styling has held up over the years and unlike the average Guzzi, the resale values for this model are somewhat staggering.

The 949cc v-twin engine was pulled from the Le Mans IV/V and pushed 82 horsepower at the crank (72 at the rear wheel) through a 5-speed transmission. The Guzzi reached a top speed of 128 miles per hour. Three versions were built over a 4 year period. Based on the cockpit, carb and color scheme, this looks to be a Series 2, of which about 500 were made. Both the Series 1 and 2 bikes produced 81 horsepower, more than the later bikes did (71, using the motor from the Cal III).

This example is VIN: ZGUVVCVV9MM200013. The seller states: “The engine casting number VV050858 designates a “big valve” motor.”

During their ownership, the seller has covered just over 1,000 miles. The odometer shows 82,163 miles.

The seller states: “Estimates vary somewhat on the number of Moto Guzzi 1000S bikes imported to the US in 1991. General consensus is that somewhere between 19 and 180 units were shipped stateside. According to Motoborgotaro.com, The U.S. received only 19 examples in 1991, all with the big valve motor and 18-inch front wheels.
Maintenance:
The seller states: “Battery replaced and new OEM turn signals front and rear installed in May 2023. Oil and filter changed April 2023. Starter replaced March 2019. Engine and transmission rebuilt, new clutch, etc. December 2008 by the previous owner. I have receipts for parts and repairs back to 1996.”
Mechanical Issues:
“Headlight high-beam inoperative. Tires have aged out with visible cracks on sidewalls.”
