In 2013, BMW debuted an all-new generation of their industry-defining GS series. After a 30+ year tradition of air/oil cooling, they moved to what’s become known as the “water boxer” engine, a liquid-cooled platform that boosted horsepower from 110 to 125, plus a healthy 92 lb-ft of torque.
For 2019, BMW updated their venerable flagship adventure bike with a new motor that deserved a new name: the R1250GS. Thanks to variable valve timing technology called ShiftCam and a displacement bump, the new motor has higher peaks of 136 hp and 105 lb-ft of torque and more importantly – it’s stronger on both extremes of the rev band.
The model was further updated for Euro 5 compliance in 2021, and BMW added several tech features such as adaptive cornering lights, standard Dynamic Traction Control/ABS Pro/Hill Start Control, and updated heated grips with 5 levels of control.
Come 2023, the engine remained the same but the German firm improved the features of the tech package with a full color TFT display, adaptive LED headlights, and a comfort heated seat.
