In the early 1960s, Kawasaki didn’t have much of a presence in the American motorcycle market — the brand’s bikes were little more than half-baked BSA clones. Upon the launch of the three-cylinder, two-stroke H1 Mach III, however, the Big K finally made a name for itself. With 60hp on-tap, a four-second 0-60mph time, and a top speed of 120, it was no time at all before it had earned its keep amongst even the most power-hungry of motorcycle enthusiasts. Eager to keep the momentum going, Kawasaki proceeded to launch three more of such two-stroke triples: the 250cc S1 Mach I, the 350cc S2 Mach II, and the 750cc H2 Mach IV.

The Mach II was the successor to Kawi’s A7 Avenger 350, and the Japanese firm claimed an output of 45 horsepower with a top speed of 112. Magazine reviews of the time couldn’t match the claimed top speed but they praised the handling, especially compared to the 500 and 750 variants.
