The first turnkey racebike since Moriwaki’s MD250H, the KTM RC390 Cup was introduced to start a RC Cup with MotoAmerica in the hopes of growing the next wave of US talent to be seen in MotoGP. Most bikes were sold to race teams, but a few examples were snagged by members of the public who wanted a dedicated track toy.

The spec bike takes the already-competent RC390 and adds a generous portion of upgrades from KTM’s PowerParts catalog, including: Akrapovic titanium exhaust with baffle, fiberglass race bodywork with solo seat tail, race windshield (taller), 17” aluminum rims shod in Dunlop Sportmax Alpha-13 SP tires, upgraded 320mm petal rotors, adjustable CNC-machined aluminum rearsets, fully adjustable WP Racing suspension front and rear, swingarm spools, brake lever guard, machined folding levers, and RC8R-style throttle assembly. It also includes a assist-and-slipper clutch, ABS module deletion, and retuned engine for less peak horsepower and more mid-range torque. The weight is also down to just 304 pounds.

This example is VIN: MD2JYJ4C1GC240023. The seller bought it three years ago from race bike builder Ron Gentile.

True mileage is unknown. The seller notes that he used it for two years, about 10 track days a year. It has “about 30= hours on the chassis and now 1 hour on a new engine.”

“This KTM RC 390 Cup is an absolute track weapon that started life as a factory Cup bike. I babied this thing — oil changes every 10 hours or less. It just received a brand new engine rebuild, is dyno-tuned and mapped, and everything is extremely well sorted. WP suspension was professionally revalved and sprung for a 200 lb rider. Watch the full build/review video here:”
Maintenance:
“Brand new engine refresh done by West Coast Cycles. Suspension re-valving and springs + setup for Chuckwalla by Bobby Loo. Oil changes done prior to the build every 10 hrs or less using Blud racing oil.”
