Ever since its debut in 1998, Yamaha’s R1 has been an industry favorite. After a hell of a challenge from BMW with the S1000RR, Yamaha took back the superbike crown in 2015 with an all-new R1. There were revisions across the board, but the highlights were the crossplane-crank engine and a class-leading electronics package – the redesign earned it win after win in press shootouts. 2018 saw another round of improvements with an updated Quick Shift System with both upshift and downshift functionality, and improved wheelie control and launch control systems. Years of consistent upgrades have brought both improved performance as well as some special paint jobs, like the “World GP 60th Anniversary Edition” of 2022 as well as the 70th Anniversary liveries of 2026.

The 70th Anniversary livery celebrates Yamaha’s start in 1955 with a throwback white/red speed block livery, gold tuning fork logos on the tank, and an Anniversary Edition badge.

For the 2026 model, Yamaha claims just shy of 200 horsepower at the crank, with an electronically limited top speed of 186 miles per hour. Wet weight is 443 pounds, and things are kept in check with a six-axis IMU and Brembo Stylema brakes.

Manufactured in October 2025, this example is VIN: JYARNA7YXTA000530.
