1. 1998 Bimota SB6R – VIN: ZESSB6006WR000014

The SB6R was only produced from 1997 to 1998, and in many eyes it’s the pinnacle of classic Bimota motorcycles — brutal power from a Japanese engine housed in a sublime Italian chassis.

The “S” in the name tells you the engine came from Suzuki; specifically, the 1,074cc inline-four from the GSX-R1100, fitted with Bimota-developed camshafts.

The result was 156 horsepower at 10,000 rpm, enough to propel the bike to a top speed of 175 miles per hour. Bimota’s “Straight Connection Technology” — a massive aluminum-alloy structure connecting the front forks and rear swingarm pivot — was the chassis centerpiece, complemented by fully adjustable Paioli upside-down forks and Brembo calipers clamping floating rotors. Even back in 1997, this bike would set you back $35,000.

2. 2000 Bimota SB8R – VIN: ZESSB8R09YR000039

First introduced at EICMA 1997, the Bimota SB8R was a cutting-edge sport bike produced for only two years. At the heart of the model was the liquid-cooled, 996cc, four-stroke, DOHC, 8V, 90-degree V-Twin from the Suzuki TL1000R, with fuel injection, a wet sump, and a six-speed transmission.

Built by Bimota with the intention of campaigning the bike in the 2000 WSBK Championship, the Italian outfit produced only around 150 units to satisfy homologation rules.

The SB8R’s crown jewel was its wildly trick chassis — an aluminum twin-spar unit with carbon fiber composite reinforcements, the first production road bike of its kind. Looking to shave weight wherever possible, the engineers in Rimini deleted the rear subframe entirely, instead seating the rider on a self-supporting full carbon fiber tail section that eliminated 4.5 lbs of bulk on its own.

Suspension was comprised of 46mm inverted Paioli forks and an Ohlins rear shock. Stopping duties went to dual 320mm discs with Brembo four-pot calipers. Bimota lightly modified Suzuki’s engine, resulting in 134hp at 9,500rpm at the rear wheel — roughly what the TL1000R made at the crank.

3. 2006 Bimota SB8K – VIN: ZESS899656R000013

The SB8K was added to Bimota’s lineup after the company’s hiatus following its late 1990s financial crisis. Built with a profusion of light alloys and carbon fiber, it employed the most advanced construction materials available — carbon fiber is used for the fairing as well as the fuel tank, which was built using the same techniques applied to MotoGP racebike components.

The SB8K is the only production bike in the world to use Bimota’s own radial injector fuel injection system. Like the SB8R before it, the engine is derived from the Suzuki TL1000R, revised and improved to deliver more horsepower and torque at all engine speeds.

Bimota claimed 143 horsepower and a dry weight of just 385 pounds. Components were top-notch throughout — Ohlins 43mm forks and monoshock, radially mounted Brembo brakes, OZ forged wheels, and ample carbon fiber. MSRP was a staggering $45,900.

4. 2008 Bimota DB5R – VIN: ZESD511R38R000006

Where the SB-series bikes drew their power from Suzuki, the “DB” designation tells you this one is powered by Ducati. The DB5R is the most extreme version of the DB5 — lightweight and agile, powered by a classic Ducati 1000 DS desmodromic V-twin engine that produces a unique and emotive riding experience: lightning-fast corner entry and mid-corner speeds, with super-precise lines and easy direction changes.

This one had only 2,042 miles on it.

Suspension is Ohlins throughout — the front gets fully adjustable 43mm upside-down forks with TiN-coated stanchions, while the rear gets a fully adjustable monoshock.

The powerful progressive brakes are Brembo, with 320mm front discs squeezed by four-piston radial calipers.

A pair of gorgeous forged aluminum OZ Racing wheels complete the package. The DB5R’s bodywork is made entirely of carbon fiber, painted in red, green, and white — the traditional colors of the Italian flag. MSRP was $36,800.

This is a collection of machines from one of motorcycling’s most exclusive manufacturers — four of Bimota’s finest from the same seller, each a testament to what happens when Italian passion meets Japanese power.
