BMW debuted the /6 in 1974 and while it had a short run (just through 1976), it’s a great generation of bikes for riders who want classic styling and authenticity with above average reliability. Fundamentally, the slash 6 was similar to its predecessor, but updates included a front disc brake, rubber panels on the tank, and an independent tachometer.
BMW offered displacement options of 600, 750, and 900cc. The 750 was good for 50 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 44 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm. The curb weight was 462 pounds and top speed was 110 miles per hour.
The sturdy build quality and torquey motors made classic boxers a popular platform for the addition of sidecars – one popular manufacturer was Velorex in the Czech Republic.
