In 1999, Ducati updated the instant-classic 916 with a larger motor and a corresponding name change to 996. The new model debuted with three models, the middle of which was the “S”.

The S got several upgrades, including: Lighter 5-spoke Marchesini wheels, extra carbon fiber pieces, and an Ohlins shock and steering damper.

Per Motorcycle News: “Everything about owning this design icon feeds my love for it. I never tire of seeing it in the garage, of the lazy churn as those big pistons pulse into life and that thunderous burst of ignition on start-up… I love how dense, taut and compact it feels, how at home it is mid-corner, or how its rhythms and sonorous tones get inside your brain. Riding it feels excitingly illicit, like having an affair, without actually being unfaithful. Every ride feels like falling in love again.”

This example is VIN: ZDM1SB5T0XB002914. The seller is the third owner, he acquired it 10 years ago from a private collector.

During his ownership, the seller has covered 5,000 miles. The odometer shows 8,596 miles.

Maintenance:
“Bike has had 2 belt services, I have records of oil service, tires have been changed twice, and received one valve adjustment at 6,000 miles. Only service that is due now is the 3rd belt service, bike will also need new tires, and the rear brake does not function (caliper needs to be rebuilt/pads replaced). Also will need one upper fairing mount Dzus fastener (fell out).”

Modifications:
“This bike has virtually the entire catalogue of Ducati Performance carbon fiber parts installed, only the side and upper fairings are aftermarket, as well as the front fender and coolant expansion tank (was replaced recently with an EVR carbon fiber reinforced expansion tank.”

Carbon Parts: (most of the parts on this list)
Carbon intake tubes
Full carbon fiber air box system with K&N filter (this may be an EVR part as well but is definitely all carbon)
Full carbon fiber tank with race cap and breather hose/vent
Inside of tank has been professionally lined with Caswell protective coating to protect the inside of the tank (can be seen in photos)
Carbon seat trim (below tank) panels
Carbon monoposto tail

Carbon upper fairing support
Carbon heel guards
Carbon swing arm protector, carbon chain guard.

Carbon front and rear fenders

Smoked LED front directionals(reccommend replacing don’t fit great but work)

Blue mesh oil cooler and radiator protector
Blue anodized aluminum frame plugs/hardware

Puig smoked windscreen
Custom painted aftermarket side and upper fairings similar to the “Matrix” green

CRG black anodized bar-end mirror, Renthal grey grips.

Performance Modifications:
Ducati Performance magnesium wheels
Full Termignoni exhaust with high temp wrap (will need to be either removed or re-wrapped due to lower fraying in photos)
996R cams
Performance ECU chip
Runs good and pulls very hard up top from the cams, very quick for a 996

It is riding on Dunlop Sportmax Q4 tires with date codes of 1919 and 4920.

The sale includes 1 ignition key. In addition, “the stand in the photos is included with the purchase of the bike, and I will provide printed and dated service records of the service I performed during ownership.”

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album in the “Photos” tab for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“Cosmetically, the tail has a very slight scuff (seen in photo) the exhaust wrap is fraying on the lower pipes, and there is a missing fastener on the upper fairing. Also the paint being aftermarket, is not as perfect as OEM but us still very nice as seen in photos. The wheels were recently powder coated within the last 2 years so they are in excellent shape with no visible stone chips.”
Currently located in Hanover, Massachuetts, this Ducati is offered on a clean Massachusetts title. Have any 996S stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the “Comments” tab!
