7/9 Update: The original owner has reached out in the comments (thanks, ersatzknarf!):
Wow! What a surprise to see this bike again! I am the original owner. I bought it from Bob Smith at MotoPoint in PA, through his friend/dealer in Michigan. It originally had the full fairing and we added the half fairing only and did not buy/add the belly pan. Greg Rammel did the gold paint on the wheels and later added a 944 Big Bore kit with Axtell heads and Keihin CR flat slide carbs. The Aircone “mufflers” were made using the original DB2 muffler assembly as a template, as the bike was in Michigan and they were (past tense, now closed years ago AFAIK) in Nevada. There was also a carbon fiber muffler assembly we got along with the half fairing. Aircone made a number of “Verlicchi” reverse cone megaphone mufflers for Greg for a number of different Ducatis using a rusted out original as the template. I had a set on my Monster as well and loved them, but on the DB2 it was quite loud, although a stunning sound being so short compared to the full size mufflers. Greg bought the bike (back) from me and then it went to someone in the Ducati Owners Club of Canada, I think. I lost track of the bike after parting with Greg. It was a fantastic bike and it was my first of several Bimotas. It is super light and with all the power upgrades, it will easily lift the front end if wanted at just about any time.”

The DB1 brought Bimota into profitability when it was released in 1985. Designed by Frederico Martini, it was the company’s first Ducati powered machine, making use of the Pantah’s 750cc mil. For its successor – the DB2 – Pierluigi Marconi helmed the design and paired a 900SS powerplant with a hand made chrome-molybdenum trellis frame that extended the tubular design to the swingarm.

It came with 41mm Paioli forks and a rear Ohlins shock, both fully adjustable. The air-cooled V-Twin yielded 86 horsepower (a slight upgrade from the 900SS thanks to a different intake and exhaust system). Weighing just 370 pounds dry, nearly every press reviewed ended with a comment that this was the best Bimota yet. Want to learn more? Check out this summary from Sports Car Market in 2009.

A total of 408 DB2s were built from 1993-1998: 285 with the full fairing, and 123 with the half fairing. This example has one of each for you to enjoy!

This example is VIN: ZES1DB214RRZES017. The seller acquired it this year from the estate of Greg Rammel.
