One of the rarest motorcycles that Ducati of the 1990s (and beyond), the 916 SPA is also known as the 955SP – and that’s your first hint as to why it’s special. With such a hard-to-find machine, specific information can be tough to pin down – but our favorite source when it comes to motorcycles like these is Jason Cormier at OddBike. In his story about the 916 Sport Production series, he notes that SPA stands for Sport Production America, and just 54 examples were built (50 of which were sold to the public). All still said 916 on the side, so it wasn’t immediately clear what was lurking underneath the fairings…
Ducati created this limited run to homologate a 2mm overbore (96mm pistons/barrels) for AMA Superbike. Sources say that the engine also benefited from titanium Pankl connecting rods, and “some sources quote a modified crankshaft and crankcases as well, but details are scarce.” We should note that we see a post from a SPA rebuild which states that the rods are actually steel.
A Cagiva/Ducati technical data sheet found at the above OddBike link lists: 43mm USD adjustable forks and adjustable shock, Brembo calipers clamping on cast iron floating discs (320mm front, 245mm rear), 31.1″ seat height and 429.9 lb weight.
This example is VIN: ZDM916S007109, Engine #: ZDM955W4*000034. The seller acquired it in 2015 from a surgeon in New York State.
During his ownership, the seller has covered 10 miles. The odometer shows 9,191 kilometers (5,711 miles).
The owner is selling his collection of bikes as he is moving out of the country. “Its a 916 SPA, the RAREST of all Ducatis! No 34 of 54 made. Bike has all documents from Fast By Ferracci and the MSO. A truly nice rare example.”

“Within last 1 year: Timing belts, all fluids, new battery, starter sprag.” The seller states that there are no known mechanical issues.

It is riding on Dunlop Sportmax Q2 tires with date codes of 1712 and 2812.

The sale also includes the original Purchase Invoice, Warranty Registration, Customer Statement, Technical Data sheet, Limited Warranty Sheet, 916 SPa flyer, and Owner’s Manual.
