Walkaround Video:
Started on the bench:
Indian introduced the Scout in 1920 and the run continued until WWII. After the success of the legendary 101 Scout, Indian did not have much luck with the Standard Scout or Motoplane. They attempted to remedy the common complaints with the Sport Scout in 1934 and the bike had some success in racing – it won the first Daytona 200, held in 1937.

The Sport Scout was powered by a 750cc flathead V-twin engine and differed from the 101 Scout with a lighter two piece frame, girder forks, upgraded Schebler carb, and alloy heads.

1939 was the last year of the open fender model, and many collectors feel it’s one of the most desirable years because Indian offered optional “World’s Fair” graphics to celebrate the 1939 event in New York. At the time, Indian was owned by DuPont and they wanted to make the bike stand out with special Art Deco paint configurations featuring distinctive pinstriping and a sharp two-tone split.

This example is VIN: FCI611. The seller acquired it in 2006 at a MidAmerica auction in Las Vegas from Wayne Kruty.

During his ownership, the seller has covered 20 miles. The odometer shows 51 miles after a restoration.

“I bought the motorcycle at MidAmerica auctions (now Mecum) in Las Vegas about 20 years ago. I didn’t even run the bike for the first five years of ownership as it sat inside the living room of my house mostly. But when I did, I put gas in it and it started third kick and idled and ran perfectly. It was restored by Wayne Kruty to the highest standard. Kruty is a very well known motorcycle restorer with some of his motorcycles fetching top dollar at auction, most recently a 1928 Indian that sold for $220,000 and a 1939 Indian that sold for $115,500. My longest ride I took on this Indian was out to Cooks Corner about 10 years ago. It ran flawlessly was easily the most admired motorcycle in the parking lot. I have started the motorcycle several times in the past month to get it ready to sell. I believe it needs the carburetor cleaned as it sat without use for 5 years before. I would recommend an oil change before taking on a long ride.”

“I’m selling it as I don’t use it. Moved full time from US 5 years ago. Beginning in 2012, I traveled around the world on two wheels, experiencing over 150 countries and logging in half a million kilometers. My journeys are well documented on both AdvRider.com and Instagram to show my passion for motorcycles and travel.”
Maintenance:
“I have done nothing during my ownership but I have restoration documentation from previous owner Wayne Kruty. Carburetor might be gummed up but I ran the bike just this week and have a short video of it running. Starts easily if you know the drill.”
