Just for the debut model year of the 1098 (2007), Ducati offered a limited edition “Tricolore” variant of the already-impressive 1098S. The S model came with lighter Marchesini wheels, a dollop of carbon fiber, and Ohlins suspension. Expectations were high for the follow-up of the controversially-styled 999, and Cycle World was impressed by the S: “on the road the 1098S isn’t just an improvement, it’s a revelation.”

The new Testastretta Evoluzione engine obviously got an increase in bore and stroke compared to the 999, but improvements to the intake, exhaust, and cylinder head helped bump up power to 160 hp. Ducati was also able to shave an impressive amount of weight from the previous model, with 11 pounds coming from the engine (6.5 of which were just from the heads).

It’s hard to argue with a Ducati in red, but if you were going to splurge for the S, then the Tricolore was even more special thanks to the red/white/green livery designed to evoke the Italian flag paired with “Racing Gold” frame and wheels.

The Tricolore also came with a carbon fiber Termignoni exhaust and specific ECU.

Ducati did not officially state a production number before the run of Tricolores began, however in December of 2007 someone in Ducati’s customer service department stated that they built 1,013 examples.

This example is VIN: ZDM1XBEW27B007124. The seller states: “The previous owner had the bike from mid 2009 and it sat largely unused for roughly fifteen years. I bought it and went through it properly before riding.”

It is compliant with EPA regulations for all 50 states:

During their ownership, the seller has covered under 1,000 kilometers. The odometer shows 3,059 kilometers (1,900 miles).

Maintenance:
The seller states: “The service work was carried out by E11even Motorsports, a Ducati specialist shop: timing belts, spark plugs, fuel pump rebuild and fuel filter replacement, coolant lines inspected and coolant refilled. Engine oil and filter changed, brake and clutch fluid flushed and bled. New Pirelli Rosso IV tires fitted. I have receipts and documentation for all of it.”
More documentation is viewable in the photo album.

Mechanical Issues:
“No mechanical issues, it runs perfectly. The clutch engagement point sits far out in the lever travel. Clutch fluid was flushed and bled during the recent service. No slipping or dragging in use.”
Modifications:
Aftermarket windscreen.

“Retains its factory Tricolore equipment (carbon Termignoni exhaust and Tricolore-specific ECU), exactly as Ducati built it.”
It is riding on Pirelli Rosso IV tires with date codes of 3525 and 3925.

The sale includes two ignition keys.
