Following up on the RZ350RN of 1985, Yamaha updated the 1986 RZ350S with a new frame, fuel tank, ignition/YPVS settings, turn signals, wheels, liveries, and more! Unlike the RZ350 we got in the US, the Canadian-spec bike featured styling that was very similar to its bigger brother including a full front fairing and a square headlight.

In period advertising, Yamaha bragged about the several features that were similar to the 500, such as “RZ500-type alloy wheels” that were claimed to save 800 grams of weight from the previous year.

Yamaha claimed 63 horsepower and 32.5 ft-lbs of torque from the 347cc liquid-cooled twin engine, plus “sleek aerodynamics” that made “the RZ350 the best performer in its class.”

Manufactured in February 1986, this example is VIN: JYA1WV009GA000577. The seller acquired it four years ago from the original owner, a private party in Lake Country, British Columbia.

During his ownership, the seller has covered 30 kilometers. The odometer shows 17,285 kilometers (10,740 miles).

“It had languished in the original owner’s basement due to his failed health. I purchased it to move it on to a true collector.”
Maintenance:
“Replaced shifter & counter shaft seals, Removed and flushed oil injection tank , replaced injection oil. Replaced gear box oil, rebuilt forks with new seals, new tires, brake system cleaned and flushed, calipers rebuilt with new seals, master cylinder cleaned/ rebuilt. coolant replaced, carbs/ jets cleaned, synced, new air filter element, all OEM parts. Full records included.”

Our partners at Dreamcycle inspected the bike and have provided the following condition report:

Mechanical Issues:
“None. The RZ350 was fully inspected and passed the Alberta mandatory Out of Province Inspection process without a single issue. The engine (matching serial number 1WV-000577) starts, warms, revs, shifts, accelerates and performs as new. The braking system works with precision using only a slight touch on each lever.”

Modifications:
“All lubrication fluids upgraded to AMSOIL. (injector oil), Lucas (10WT fork oil) synthetic lube, Gearbox/clutch lube is Castrol convention oil to be changed after 500km to clean and flush the internal components since I could not find mention of a lube replacement in the Yamaha dealer service invoices provided by the original owner. The air box lid has been drilled with several 1/2″ holes, apparently, to “improve” performance.”
It is riding on Bridgestone tires with date codes of 0324 and 2324.

The sale includes 2 ignition keys, Haynes manual, original owner’s manual, tool kit, warranty and storage guide, as well as a Yamaha brochure.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album in the “Photos” tab for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“There is a 3/4 in long scratch or crack on the face of the warning light panel plastic cover in the lower left vicinity of the red “OIL” warning light.

The original Yamaha Stormy Red (code AJ) and Silky White (code GE) paint colors are deep and lustrous, like new and virtually without flaws. Has worn paint in front of rear tire on the swing arm.

A few minor chips on the caliper paint.

Marks on rear fender where license plate would be.

Scratched paint above seat release key lock.

Scratch on lower left fairing.

Mark on rear tail section above Yamaha decal where it meets the seat.”

Currently located in Sorrento, British Columbia, Canada, this Yamaha is offered on a clean Alberta registration. Have any RZ350 stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the “Comments” tab!
