Built between 1913 and 1915, the Harley-Davidson Model 9E was known for the reliability of its 61 cubic inch (1,000cc) V-Twin engine, which was good for 7-8 horsepower and a top speed of approximately 55 horsepower. They featured an all-chain drive with a clutch in the rear hub, roller chain transmission, and some updates over the previous year including larger inlet and exhaust chambers, more clearance between the tires and mudguards, and wider forks. It became known as the “Silent Gray Fellow” thanks to a combination of the standard paint color of Renault Gray with Carmine striping and a quite exhaust as the bike was designed for practicality over performance. This bike “has been fully restored with new nickel plating and hand-applied pinstriping and lettering.” It “has a freshly overhauled motor and includes the optional acetylene headlamp and tail lamp.
