Although not produced since 1965, few motorcycle manufactures have stature as iconic as Ariel. The square four engine, designed by legendary Edward Turner in 1928, is considered colossally import because of its transverse four-cylinder layout, smooth power delivery, long production run, and major technical achievement.

When Turner left Ariel for Triumph and designed a second iconic motorcycle, the Triumph Speed Twin, Ariel needed to answer. The result was the Ariel Twin, a 500cc engine first put into production in 1948. These twins had two levels of trim offered – the Deluxe KG 500 and Red Hunter KH 500. Despite the “Deluxe” name, the KG had bigger “all-weather” fenders, less vibrant black/chrome paint, and a lower compression engine whereas the Red Hunter models had higher compression pistons, slimmer fenders and bright red paint on the tanks and wheels.

This example is VIN: LL474; Engine OP655; Gearbox G107. Our Canadian partner Dreamcycle is selling the bike on behalf of the owner’s estate. He had owned this KG500 for the past 50 years.

The odometer shows 25 miles. However, true mileage unknown.

Maintenance:
Approximately 10 years ago, the owner completed, “a fully documented ground up restoration with over $35,000 CAN in receipts. It’s a beautiful restoration of a wonderful and rare classic motorcycle.”

Dreamcycle notes the following in their condition report:
