In the long, proud history of BMW, the R69S is one of the most iconic motorcycles ever built by the German manufacturer. In a 1962 review of the BMW R69S, Cycle World said, “Whatever the BMW’s merits in a contest of speed, it is still the smoothest, best finished, quietest and cleanest motorcycle it has ever been our pleasure to ride. To be honest, we think that anyone who would worry much over its performance-potential is a bit of a booby.

The R69S is fast enough to handle any encounter, and it has attributes that are, in touring, infinitely more valuable than mere speed. All things considered, if we were planning a two-wheel style vacation/tour, the BMW would have to be our choice of mount.”

The BMW R69S, produced from 1960 to 1969, was BMW’s sportbike of its day. With 42 horsepower, it was by far the most powerful bike BMW made at the time. The 594cc four-stroke two-cylinder could reach a reported top speed of 109mph and it was renowned for its superbly smooth handling, reliability, build quality and finish as well as its classic clean looks.11,317 units were produced throughout the 60s with hardly any updates as the original design was so successful.

This example is VIN: 657030. The seller is the second owner, he purchased it from the original owner in 1977.

Maintenance:
Seller states: “I have lots of photos and maintenance records, etc. My Google drive contains lots of photos and very detailed writeup in pdf format.” Here is a few:

Mechanical Issues:
Please note: “It is not currently running. When I stopped riding I filled the trans, engine, rear drive and tank with the appropriate storage oils. The tank has some solids which have settled out over time. If someone were going to ride this, it would be a good idea to have the gas tank relined.”
Modifications:
“The only aftermarket part is the turn signal switch which is from an R75/5. The only reproduction parts are the two mufflers. Everything else is either original to this bike or an NOS part from the 1960s.”

It is riding on Coker tires from 2016 that have since been aged out.

Extras:Per the seller: “Bike comes with all the original parts except the mufflers, this includes all parts that were replaced during the restoration. You also get many NOS parts including a set of points, metal bands to hold the wiring harness to the frame, an original tool roll with all the tools and the special BMW exhaust nut wrench, a complete working set of extra carburetors, pillion seat frame and many other goodies. Plus the records, partsbooks and other documents.” The sale also includes 2 ignition keys.
