Description

Additional photos of this 1974 BMW R90S are available here for your perusal.

The R90S is one of BMW’s most famous bikes, and it was an instant game-changer when it was released in 1974.

Cycle magazine may have summed it up best in their review: “There’s absolutely no doubt that the R90S is a remarkable motorcycles. It does, or can be made to do, almost everything as well and possibly better than any other road machine you can buy. The Sport is exceptional in numerous areas: speed, acceleration, comfort, cleanliness, operating economy, smoothness, quietness, braking, reliability, and convenience.”

With oversight from Hans Muth, this bike was built to show the world that the German firm could make more than just touring bikes for old guys. Reg Pridmore helped solidify that claim with a first place finish in the first ever AMA Superbike Championship series in 1976.

As a first year (1974 model), this is differentiated from the ’75 and ’76 models with a smoother seat, five position ignition switch, small diameter front axle, /5-styled handlebar controls, taped stripes, standard kick starter, and more.

This example is VIN: 4071025, Engine #: 4071025. Please note that the VIN is stated as “R90E4071025” on the title.

The odometer shows 23,069 miles.

It was repainted approximately five years ago by Holt BMW in Athens, Ohio.

Cosmetic Blemishes:
Small tear in the seat.

The horn is rusty.

Inside of the gas tank.

In preparation for this listing, the seller had install a Yuasa 53030 battery, new petcocks, and a top end gasket kit. Our technician Josh noted that the #1 cylinder wall is pitted on the lower side.

The tire date codes are 2113 and 1414.

The sale includes the factory luggage, however the bike does not have the luggage mounts.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this BMW is offered on a clean Montana title. Have any R90S stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the comments!
