A truly iconic motorbike, the Husqvarna 400 CR (Cross) was made famous by Steve McQueen when he rode a 1970 model in the classic movie On Any Sunday.

And here’s the thing, the bike wasn’t just some movie prop — it was designed with real deal dirt riding in mind. For instance, Husky painted the tanks red but polished a panel on each side so as to minimize marring from the rider’s pants. Over time, however, it became the defining off-road livery for many riders, as it was a symbol for Husqvarna’s racing success.

Key to that domination was the power plant. The 400 CR came outfitted with a 395cc air-cooled two stroke single. Complemented by a left-side kick-start and a five-speed transmission, it was good for a thumping 40 horses. In order to help with heat dissipation, Husqvarna painted the unit construction engine and expansion chamber matte black.

This example is VIN: MK13208, engine #:  20301757. The seller acquired the bike from a private party two months ago.

During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately two miles. There is no odometer.

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “the bike was in great condition when I bought it, and it starts and runs good. The transmission oil and spark plug were changed. New Kenda Classic knobby tires were installed along with new tubes. The bike came with a Barum Six Day tire on the rear, not sure the last time they were made! I updated the Magura Clutch and Brake controls with new Magura Clutch and Brake controls, strictly cosmetic, the old ones worked fine and will be included with the sale. New Venhil Clutch, Throttle and front brake cables were installed. Again strictly cosmetic the old ones worked fine and will be included in the sale. New grips were installed due age of the old ones.”

Modifications:
Updated levers and cables.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Kenda tires with date codes of 4423 and 4523.

The sale includes a selection of manuals along with the original parts.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“The chrome on the handlebars is worn and the cross bar has a slight bend in it.”

“Being an older dirt bike it does have some chips and scratches in the frame paint.”

“The tank has a few chips in the paint and no dings.”
